My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Book Description:

In The Indigo Spell, Sydney was torn between the Alchemist way of life and what her heart and gut were telling her to do. And in one breathtaking moment that Richelle Mead fans will never forget, she made a decision that shocked even her. . . .

But the struggle isn't over for Sydney. As she navigates the aftermath of her life-changing decision, she still finds herself pulled in too many directions at once. Her sister Zoe has arrived, and while Sydney longs to grow closer to her, there's still so much she must keep secret. Working with Marcus has changed the way she views the Alchemists, and Sydney must tread a careful path as she harnesses her profound magical ability to undermine the way of life she was raised to defend. Consumed by passion and vengeance, Sydney struggles to keep her secret life under wraps as the threat of exposure—and re-education—looms larger than ever.

Pulses will race throughout this thrilling fourth installment in the New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series, where no secret is safe.

This book was AWESOME! I seriously love this series. This book was no exception.

However, with that said…I hated the ending. And that’s me being nice. I loathed the ending! (Note: the horrible ending in no way detracts from the awesomeness of this book. Part of why the book was so good is because the ending was so bad)

I have to say that at the end of the last book, I was all giddy about the new relationship between Adrian and Sydney. I couldn’t wait to see them together. But unfortunately, Sydney’s betraying bitch sister showed up to throw a monkey wrench into things.

And that’s where we pick up. Adrian and Sydney are sneaking around to spend time with each other and Zoe is being a petulant brat about having to report to Sydney and calling her out for doing her job. To be perfectly honest (and in case you can’t already tell)…I hated Zoe. With a passion. A burning passion. Of a thousand suns. A burning passion that had me wanting to drive her off a cliff…onto sharp rocks below…feeding her to sharks. Yes, my vampire is showing. I seriously wanted to go all Dexter on Zoe.

However, I give Richelle Mead credit for creating a character I hated beyond all reason. And for me, Zoe is beyond redemption. I hope she’s not seen again in the series. If she is, I hope Sydney goes off on her and cuts Zoe out of her life.

There was definitely progress made in this book story wise. Some interesting developments happened with the tattoos and ink and I can’t wait to see how that comes into play later.

And I really can’t wait to see how they get Sydney back and/or how Sydney gets out of her current situation.

This series is a must read for anyone that likes YA/NA paranormal romance. And as much as I liked the Vampire Academy books, I think this series is better.
